Temple: The Vaatpokki Nathar temple is situated on a hillock reached by a flight of 1000 steps. The shrine of Lord Shiva faces west and the shrine of female deity faces east. Thus it can be seen that the main male and female deities face each other. It is considered very auspicious to visit three Shivasthalams (Kadambar Kovil in the morning, Tiruvaatpokki (Ratnagiri) at noon and Tiruveengoimalaiin the evening) on Mondays during the Tamil month of Karthigai. It is also believed that Lord Shiva here is worshipped by lightening once in 12 years.
