How to reach This temple is 16 Kms on the west direction from Vaitheeswarankovil by road. It is situated near Manalmedu at Eluppaipattu. Bus facilities are available from Mayiladuthurai and Vaitheeswaran Kovil.

According to legend, it is believed that the Pancha Paandavas of Mahabharatham installed 5 Sivalingams at this Sthalam and worshipped God Shiva afer they escaped from the poison pond (Natchupoigai). As such, there are 5 shrines for Lord Shiva. The main deity isknown as Neelakandeswarar. The other 4 shrines are for 1. Padikkarai Nayagar, 2. Muktheesar, 3. Paramesar and 4. Magadeesar. Lord Brahma is also believed to have worshipped Shiva here.
