God Murugan worshipped his father God Shiva at this Shivasthalam and got the necessary weaponry to destroy the demon king Soorapadman. Sandeswarar was born at this place. According to legend, a Chola king donated land and house to more than 300 persons at this place. When one person was missing, Lord shiva himself disguised as the missing person and got the land and house from the Chola King. When the King was informed that there seems to be no person living in that particular house, he went personally to check the house and when the king opened the door of the house, he found Lord Shiva standing there as a sculpture. God Shiva gave Mokshaa to that king at this Shivasthalam.
