There are 2 Paadal Petra Shivasthalams in the name of Kurangaaduthurai where Sugreevan and Vaali are believed to have worshipped Shiva. Vada Kurangaduturai, known so because of its location to the north of the river Cauvery, is situated near Tiruvaiyaru where vaali worshipped Lord Shiva. The other Kurangaaduthurai, known as Aduthurai (Thenkurangaduthurai – Thevara thalam – south of river Kaveri), is located near Tiruvidaimarudur on the Kumbakonam – Mayiladuthurai road.
This temple has a 5 tier Gopuram (Tower) and 2 prakarams. Stucco figures representing the legends associated, are seen in this temple and a stone image of Vaali worshipping Shiva adorns the sanctum. Inscriptions from the Chola period have been found inside this temple.
