Sandesa Nayanar is believed to have worshipped God Shiva at this sthalam and got Mokshaa (salvation). According to legend, a shepherd living in this area used to carry the milk after milking the cows and goats. To his anguish, everyday, at a particular place, he slipped and fell down on the earth spilling all the milk he carried on the floor. Frustrated by this, when the shepherd dug the ground with the weapon in his hand, blood started coming out of the ground. The shepherd started digging deep into the ground and found a Shivalingam burried in the ground. He prayed and whrshipped the Shivalingam and God Shiva blessed him and hence God Shiva was known as Paalugandha Easwarar.
